Evaluate the invention.
Unlock potential with purpose.
Not every scientific finding is automatically patentable or commercially viable. In our invention assessment, we review protectability and the market potential of your invention. That creates a solid basis for the next steps, from patenting and commercialization through to a possible spin-out.

Have you made an invention? Before you publish, the first step is to contact the technology transfer office at your university. There you can disclose your invention. Your university's technology transfer office can then engage BAYPAT to assess it.
Once your university has engaged us to review your invention, we get in touch and discuss the details with you.
Why does this matter?
The first step is done. From here on, any potential patenting needs to be coordinated in time with an upcoming publication.
A patent application usually does not have to delay your publication or the release of your research. Peer-review processes are typically confidential. Check the journal's policy in advance.
The patent application can be prepared and filed in parallel with peer review. That way publication and IP protection go hand in hand.

We check whether all inventor data has been captured, your invention is described clearly, and whether contractual obligations from funding projects or collaborations apply.
Why does this matter?
Only then can IP rights be filed securely and later conflicts avoided.

We assess whether an idea or invention meets the requirements for patentability. Concretely, we first check whether the idea is new, is not obvious to a person skilled in the art from existing solutions, is industrially applicable, and is described technically so that it can be carried out.
Why does this matter?
This helps us recognize early whether a patent application is worthwhile and whether the invention is sufficiently new, inventive, and protectable.

We analyze the commercial opportunities and sales potential of your invention in the target market. Among other things, we look at which concrete customer problem is solved, how large the benefit is, how large and accessible the relevant market segments are, how the invention is positioned versus competitors and alternatives, what maturity level is present, and which regulatory requirements apply.
Why does this matter?
This helps us judge whether development and commercialization are economically worthwhile and what the market prospects look like.

Based on the patentability and market potential analysis, we prepare an opinion and recommend to the university whether the invention should be claimed by the university or released to the inventors. We inform the inventors of our assessment (claim or release of the invention). See also "What is an invention" in our Invention Check app.
Why does this matter?
This gives everyone clarity on how to proceed and allows the next steps toward patenting and commercialization, or release, to be started in time.

After your invention is claimed, we initiate patenting and take steps toward commercial exploitation.
Finding the right partner for your technology is not left to chance. We draw on a company network built over many years and also use professional, marketing-focused AI-supported tools to identify the right partners.
Planning a spin-out?
In that case we are happy to support you with questions around your startup. We have already guided many startups successfully and look forward to supporting your journey.
Why does this matter?
This is important to secure the IP rights and to move the invention into commercial use, for example through licensing or collaborations.
